This may be the first time an entire city has said, “Good job,” to its local abortion doctor.

Since it’s Friday, and you might want some good news to end your week, I just want to share this bit of local news with you.

See, I’ve never been a fan of abortion doctors. Something about them just seems a little…creepy. But it turns out that Krishna Rajanna, 74, is a hero. He says that during his career, it was a never ending witch hunt, and he’s just trying to do something good. He’s not the monster his opponents always portrayed him as being. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished.

Just a Miscellaneous Person

It seems like everyone wants to put labels on everyone.  You know, put everyone in a box.

When I tell a new acquaintance that I’m a pastor, I instantly see a thousand calculations pass through their minds about the kind of person I must be, the things I must like to do, the politics I must have, the thoughts I must think.  Almost inevitably, the very first question out of their mouths is what kind of church do I pastor?  By that, they mean to ask if I’m Presbyterian or Baptist or something like that.  Another box with another label.  Even calling myself “non-denominational” puts me in a box, a box marked “miscellaneous.”

Maybe that’s a good label for me: miscellaneous.  Maybe I am just a miscellaneous person.

Let’s check all the other boxes and see if I fit in with them…

I love the earth.

I may have given the impression otherwise.  I’ve confessed that I’m an agnostic when it comes to global warming.  I’ll admit that I’m not a tree hugger.  In fact, the thought of a rabid tree hugger often makes me want to kick a tree right in the crotch, just so those trees don’t start thinking too highly of themselves.

But I do think we ought to take care of the earth.  And I hate to see people giving environmentalism a bad name by shamelessly advertising their “compassion” for the earth while really doing nothing.  Environmentalism is like an accessory to most people, like a Livestrong bracelet.

Of course, there are a ton of cliché methods to commemorate Earth Day.  However, instead of planting a tree, I’ve got three suggestions for how you can celebrate this Earth Day on Friday and “Green Week” until then!
